Yes! NESC Motion is ideal for newcomers to fitness. The class focuses on low-impact movements that improve strength, flexibility, and body awareness. Each exercise is thoroughly explained and demonstrated, creating a welcoming environment where you can learn at your own pace.

No experience or special equipment is needed! Just bring yourself, a water bottle, and comfortable clothing. If you have a yoga mat, you’re welcome to bring it, but we also provide mats and everything else you'll need.

Our small group classes typically consist of 6 to 8 participants. This allows for personalised attention from the coach, so you can work on technique and form while enjoying the camaraderie of a group setting.

It’s natural to feel nervous before your first class, but NESC Motion is designed to be beginner-friendly, and our coaches are here to help you every step of the way. You'll find a supportive, friendly community and a class atmosphere focused on building confidence and enjoying movement!

Class Coach
Claire
Meet Claire, one of NESC’s newest coaches and a passionate advocate for balancing hard work with fun in fitness. With several years of experience teaching and coaching, from tutoring young people in Leeds to coaching rowing teams and leading fitness classes, Claire fell in love with helping others achieve their goals - and is fast on her way to completing her GP Referral Level 3.
Claire’s journey into fitness started during her PhD, when she took up rowing to stay social and active. It was a life-changing decision, teaching her about the power of teamwork and resilience. As a competitive rower, she embraced the challenge of strength and conditioning, which she later channelled into natural body building, earning her Northern Counties Bikini Champ in 2023 - and though she’ll tell you she has a love-hate relationship with Bulgarian split squats, she credits them with building her grit.
Now, Claire channels her passion for fitness into coaching. She loves leading NESC Motion classes, where she helps members focus on balance, flexibility, mobility strength and breathing — often overlooked aspects of fitness. "My favourite part of coaching is seeing someone go from doubting their ability to perform an exercise or stretch to realizing they can do it after all!"
Claire’s mission is to help both gym newbies and seasoned athletes walk away feeling accomplished and inspired. When she’s not coaching, you’ll find Claire outdoors with her pooch, enjoying a well-earned meal, or planning her next big adventure in fitness.
